The honey and the bees
As a result of Portugal’s unique biodiversity and ancient beekeeping tradition, the Portuguese have been able to craft a wide variety of honeys. At Rabo de Lobo we embrace these traditions and keep a 100 bee hives with a total population of approximately 5.000.000 bees.
Their ecosystem services are pollination, protection, feeding us people, birds and other insects. The benefits of honey seem to be endless as well, fighting pollen allergies, wound care and skin treatments are just a few of the benefits.
We are a member of the Portuguese Beekeepers National Federation (FNAP) to exchange knowledge and be well connected to other beekeepers.
This is what we can do because of the bees:
- Pollination by pollen dispersal
- Harvest honey and other bee products
- Local sales of raw honey which also fight allergies
- To sale raw honey, beeswax and bee products to haute cuisine restaurants
- To process in Fresca de Lobo products such as ice-cream, confiture, and curd
- Keep unwanted visitors out of the vineyard and gardens
- To support a healthy ecosystem
